Mohamed Ashraf Mahmoud

Chairman and Managing Director, Al Sharkeya Sugar Manufacturing (Al Nouran)


Ashraf Mahmoud is the Chairman and Managing Director of Al Nouran Group, a local and regional pioneer in the field of sugar agriculture and trading.

In 1985, Ashraf Mahmoud founded Al Nouran Multi-Trading Company L.L.C, and has since achieved consecutive successes both locally and regionally. Agricultural activities commenced in 2008, followed by launching the industrial activities in 2012.

Ashraf has 34 years of experience in the fields of international trade, finance, barter transactions, risk management, import and export, including 24 years in sugar, both locally and internationally.

He recently implemented innovative and comprehensive solutions for the production of sugar from sugar beets, achieving an unprecedented vertical growth in terms of productivity- per-acre. The project attained pioneering results in agricultural production, which led to doubling the productivity, as well as meeting the growing demand for such a strategic commodity in the Egyptian market.

Due to the growth and diversity of companies founded and managed by Ashraf, he led the implementation of a full restructuring of the management systems and production capacities under the Al Nouran Sugar umbrella.

Ashraf Mahmoud enjoys strong management experience and strategic vision that enabled him to achieve leadership in his field of specialization. He is also a member of the American Chamber of Commerce, the Egyptian Businessmen Association, and the Young Presidents’ Organization (YPO).

His extensive local and international network has helped him promote the hosting of Formula One (F1) in 2004 in Egypt; one of the prominent sports events in the world. He secured the approval of the FIA/F1 for Egypt to host the F1 from 2004 until 2013 after 5 years of preparations among multiple foreign entities, as well as the Egyptian government.

In addition to his practical, managerial and social acumen, Ashraf Mahmoud has a strong educational foundation supporting his successful career. He holds a B.Sc. in Accounting from Ain Shams University in Cairo, and has completed advanced bushiness and strategic negotiations courses at the American University in Cairo, Harvard Business School, Stanford University, and London Business School.
