Advisor to the Minister for Investment Promotion, Ministry of Investment and International Cooperation
Malek Fawaz was born on April 15, 1976 in Cairo, Egypt to an Egyptian father and an Austrian mother. He attended the German School in Cairo. In 1996 he moved to Kiel, Germany to start his studies. Malek was enrolled in the University of Kiel to major in Business Information Systems. After a year he transferred to the University of Vienna as he wanted more to live in his other home country, Austria. In Vienna, as a young 19 year old, he took on many jobs related and unrelated to his major of study. In 1998 he was employed by Hewlett Packard as a IT support and was part of the Y2K readiness team. For Danone GMBH he worked as a project manager. Malek Fawaz became trainer in Austria for the courses IT Networking, database development and e-commerce applications development.
He initiated his own company in 2002 Peacequare which was a software enterprise targeting information technology transfer from Austria to Egypt. He created hospital management software helping Egyptian hospitals to manage their finances and medical records. In 2006, Malek graduated from the University of Vienna with a masters degree in business informatics and highest honors having introduced the concept of 3 dimensional e-commerce in his thesis. After having acquired over ten years of work experience in Austria and Germany, and his masters degree, he decided to return to Cairo, Egypt to employ his multicultural skills.
He worked with the government to introduce Adobe workflow management systems to facilitate G2G and G2C services. He then worked as a consultant for RWE DEA, a German Upstream Company transferring German IT standards to the Egyptian branch as well as the joint venture Suez Oil Company where he was able to streamline many business and IT processes. He later became the operational IT manager of DEA Egypt from 2013 – 2016 implementing many business IT solutions supporting multiple business processes and contributing to DEA Egypt acquiring the ISO certificate for the management system.
Malek then recently decided to take on a new challenge of working for the ministry of investment and international cooperation as Advisor to the Minister in order to further contribute to his passion for Egypt.
