Mrs Mahawa Kaba-Wheeler is the Director for the Department of Women, Gender and Development at the African Union Commission. Reporting to the Chairperson on all matters related to gender equality and women’s empowerment, Mrs. Kaba-Wheeler’s vision is to concretize the African Union’s commitments to this critical continental priority area and considers Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics an essential lever towards its realization.

Prior to joining the AU, Mrs. Kaba-Wheeler served in Advisory and Programme Management positions at the UN and International Development and Humanitarian Organizations across sub-Saharan Africa.

Mrs. Kaba-Wheeler holds a Master in Law from the University of Gamal Abdel Nasser in her native Republic of Guinea and a Master’s of Science in Project Management from the George Washington University in the USA.
