Holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree (LLB) from the University of Zambia. He was admitted to practice as an advocate in December 1986. Was conferred with Rank, Honour and Dignity of State Counsel in 2008.

Elijah Banda, S.C. has held positions as Vice President of the Law Association of Zambia, President of the Law Association of Zambia. He is also currently serving as President of the Pan African Lawyers Union (PALU), the umbrella association of African Lawyers and Law Societies. Elijah Banda, S.C. is a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (UK) and also a member of the Zambian Chapter. He is also an accredited Court Mediator.
